Description
The Panamanian golden frog is a small, brightly-colored frog and is the national animal of Panama and is thought to bring good luck. They generally occur near rapid-flowing small streams. Panamanian golden frogs protect themselves from predators by skin secretions of a unique and potent nerve-poison called zetekitoxin. This species has declined in numbers by over 80% over the past decade. To ensure survival of this species, Project Golden Frog was established to create captive assurance colonies of this species.
